FS Expert™️ certification, a 5-step process … for experts
Are you an FS Expert™️ when you participate in one functional safety project? Not really. Are you an expert when you take functional safety training and pass an exam? Not really. When writing one SRS, are you an expert on the full functional safety standard? No, not really, but you have some first-hand experience writing an SRS.

If you look up the definition of an expert in the dictionary, then you get something like this “a person who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area”.

An expert is somebody who has not only knowledge but also skills. When you follow a training course, you get knowledge. When you do the actual work, you get the skill over time. When you start doing the actual work, you are a professional. But when you do the work over a longer period of time, you can become an expert. When you do it over a really long time, you can become a master.

How to become a certified FS Expert™️
At Risknowlogy, the FS Expert certification process is part of what we call Field Certification. You get certified in the field of functional safety. We use as a basis a functional safety standard. The candidate needs to demonstrate practical knowledge and skill through the following 5 steps:
  1. Demonstrate formal training in FS
  2. Provide two case studies demonstrating practical experience
  3. Submit two references that confirm the actual work
  4. Submit actual hours worked on FS projects (see below)
  5. Interview
We actually offer 3 levels of field certification:
  1. Professional : 40+ hours experience
  2. Expert: 1500+ hours experience
  3. Master: 3000+ hours experience
Our certification process is fast, recognised and affordable. It is not easy to prove that you are an FS expert, but when you are one, you deserve it.
