The Pyro Electric 100 Series RTD and Thermocouple (TC) has been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508, using the proven-in-use certification route. This certification confirms that the product meets the applicable functional safety requirements for use as part of safety-related temperature measurement functions in industrial applications.

The certification assessment focused on the actual behaviour of the product in real operating conditions, supported by extensive field data collected over multiple years of industrial operation. This approach demonstrates not only theoretical compliance, but verified performance in service — a key requirement for proven-in-use justification under IEC 61508.

The 100 Series is classified as a Type A field instrument and performs a single, clearly defined safety function:
measuring temperature and providing a correct output within specified accuracy and response-time limits.

The certification scope includes a review of the product design, operational history, reliability data, quality management practices, and supporting user documentation relevant to functional safety.

Based on the proven-in-use evidence and reliability analysis, the Pyro Electric 100 Series RTD and TC is suitable for use in SIL 2 safety functions in HFT = 0 architectures, and can be applied in SIL 3 safety functions when implemented with HFT = 1, in accordance with IEC 61508 requirements.
