Issued and certified by Risknowlogy — independent certification body for functional safety, operating according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Scope: The Istec SpeedSys 300 has been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508:2010. Certificate 18.508.21-2 was issued on 2026-06-11 and confirms that the SpeedSys 300 meets the applicable functional safety requirements for the certified scope. Risknowlogy GmbH, Switzerland, performed the assessment as an independent third-party certifier, with the certificate held by Istec International BV, The Netherlands, and the product manufactured by Mütec Instruments GmbH, Germany.
The SpeedSys 300 is a speed and acceleration measurement module for turbine speed monitoring in industrial applications. It measures input pulse frequency from speed probes, derives speed and acceleration values, compares them against configurable limits, and outputs signals via safety relays and a 4–20 mA current loop. It adds an RS485 Modbus RTU interface and a dedicated proof test interface, and is intended for safety instrumented functions in low-demand mode under IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
The certification applied Risknowlogy's structured functional safety methodology, addressing hardware integrity, reliability, basic safety, functional safety management, and user documentation.
The SpeedSys 300 is classified as Type B hardware. Based on the assessed architecture and failure data, it is fit for use in SIL 2 safety functions at HFT = 0, and in SIL 3 safety functions at HFT = 1, subject to correct system architecture, application constraints, and the conditions of use in the certificate.
End users, EPCs, and system integrators bear full responsibility for correct application across the functional safety lifecycle — system-level design, installation, validation, proof testing, operation, and maintenance under IEC 61508 and, where applicable, IEC 61511. The certification does not transfer these obligations to Risknowlogy or Istec, and its validity depends on the design remaining unchanged and operation staying within the stated limits.
The detailed certification basis, conditions of use, and limitations are defined in certificate 18.508.21-2 and Risknowlogy assessment report 18.508.18.
