Issued and certified by Risknowlogy — independent certification body for functional safety, operating according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Scope: Risknowlogy has independently certified the Istec SpeedSys 200 in accordance with IEC 61508:2010. Certificate 18.508.22-3, issued 2026-06-11, documents that the SpeedSys 200 satisfies the functional safety requirements for the certified scope. Risknowlogy GmbH, Switzerland, conducted the assessment as an independent third-party certifier, with the certificate held by Istec International BV, The Netherlands, and the product designed and manufactured by Mütec Instruments GmbH, Germany.
The SpeedSys 200 is a turbine speed and acceleration measurement module for safety instrumented functions in process and heavy industrial environments. It accepts pulse inputs from speed probes, converts pulse frequency into speed and acceleration values, compares them against configurable set points, and delivers outputs via dual safety relays and a 4–20 mA current signal. It operates in low-demand mode under IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Risknowlogy's assessment applied a structured functional safety methodology covering hardware integrity, reliability, basic safety, functional safety management, and user documentation.
The SpeedSys 200 is classified as Type B hardware. Based on the assessed failure data and certified architecture, the module is fit for use in SIL 2 safety functions at both HFT = 0 and HFT = 1, subject to the conditions of use, system architecture, and application constraints in the issued certificate.
Correct and continued safe use of the SpeedSys 200 remains the responsibility of the end user throughout the functional safety lifecycle. The safety instrumented function must be designed and validated at system level; the module must be installed, commissioned, and proof-tested per supplier documentation; and it must be operated within the stated limits. Nothing in this certification relieves the end user of these obligations, and any future product modification requires an IEC 61508-compliant change and re-certification.
The full certification basis, conditions of use, and end-user responsibilities are set out in certificate 18.508.22-3 and Risknowlogy assessment report 18.508.18.
