Issued and certified by Risknowlogy — independent certification body for functional safety, operating according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Scope: The ENOTEC OXITEC 5000/500E, COMTEC 6000/600E, AQUATEC 1000, and SILOTEC 8000 gas analyzers have been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508:2010. The certification confirms that the analyzers meet the applicable functional safety requirements for use in safety-related oxygen measurement functions in the process industry.
Each analyzer uses an in-situ zirconium-oxide probe to measure the oxygen concentration of a process gas and converts the result into a 4–20 mA output signal, within a tolerance of 2% of full span, for use as a safety-related oxygen measurement in low-demand mode.
The certification was performed using a combined proven-in-use and FMEDA-based assessment, supported by more than 74 million cumulative field operating hours accumulated since 2011. The certification scope addressed hardware, reliability, embedded software, fault injection testing, basic safety, and user documentation. Each analyzer is classified as Type B hardware with zero hardware fault tolerance. ENOTEC's quality management system is ISO 9001 certified; the certification itself rests on demonstrated field performance rather than a certified functional safety management system during original product development, and ENOTEC maintains an IEC 61508-compliant modification procedure to preserve that basis going forward.
Based on the assessed field and reliability data, the OXITEC, COMTEC, AQUATEC, and SILOTEC analyzers are fit for use in SIL 2 safety functions in low-demand mode, in accordance with IEC 61508, where the 4–20 mA oxygen output is the only interface used for the safety function.
This certification provides end users, EPCs, system integrators, and asset owners with confidence that the certified ENOTEC analyzers can be integrated into safety instrumented functions as part of a compliant functional safety lifecycle. Continued validity depends on the analyzer design remaining unchanged and on correct application, installation, operation, and maintenance by the end user. Responsibility for safe integration into the overall safety instrumented system, functional safety analysis under IEC 61508 or IEC 61511, and lifecycle management rests with the end user.
The detailed certification basis, conditions of use, and limitations are defined in the issued certificate 2770.408.11-2 and the supporting Risknowlogy certification report 2770.408.10.
