Issued and certified by Risknowlogy — independent certification body for functional safety, operating according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Scope: A set of high-pressure final element assemblies developed and integrated by BHDT (Kapfenberg, Austria) has been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508:2010 and IEC 61511:2016. The certification confirms that the assemblies meet the applicable functional safety requirements for use as final elements in safety-instrumented systems.
The certified assemblies are intended for tight shutoff duties in high-pressure process service. Each performs the same safety function: upon demand, bring the valve to the closed position within a defined response time, operating in low-demand mode. The assemblies consist of BHDT high-pressure valves integrated with actuators, solenoids, and pneumatic supply components. The certified configurations are identified as subsystems in the tag series 062FV, 062HV, 062LV, and 062XV, as listed in the certificate.
The certification was performed using Risknowlogy's structured functional safety methodology, addressing hardware requirements, architectural constraints, and functional safety management in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. Each assembly is classified as Type A hardware, reflecting a design with well-defined and predictable failure behaviour.
Based on the assessed failure data and architectural evaluation, all certified configurations are suitable for use in SIL 2 safety functions at both HFT = 0 and HFT = 1, subject to the conditions of use defined in the certificate and report. Certificate number 2628.653.17-1, issued 2026-06-09.
This certification gives end users, EPCs, system integrators, and asset owners confidence that the certified BHDT final element assemblies can be integrated into safety-instrumented functions as part of a compliant functional safety lifecycle. Continued validity depends on the assembly design and configuration remaining unchanged and on correct application, installation, operation, and maintenance by the end user. Responsibility for safe integration into the overall safety-instrumented system, proof testing, and lifecycle management in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 rests with the end user.
The detailed certification basis, safety functions, conditions of use, and limitations are defined in the issued certificate 2628.653.17-1 and the supporting Risknowlogy certification report 2628.653.16.
