The certified safety function of valve 1231359 is to drive the valve closed upon demand, within a defined response time, in low-demand mode. The valve is designed for tight shutoff service in high-pressure chemical and petrochemical processes, and it operates as part of a final element assembly comprising the valve together with its actuator, solenoid, and associated pneumatic components.

The assessment was carried out under compliance route 1H, evaluating the valve's failure modes, failure rates, and architectural constraints in line with IEC 61508. Valve 1231359 is a Type A device, meaning its failure behaviour is well defined and predictable, and its design is grounded in an established BHDT concept supported by documented operating history.

The resulting capability follows from the assessed failure data and the chosen compliance route: valve 1231359 is fit for use in SIL 1 safety functions at HFT = 0, and in SIL 2 safety functions at HFT = 1, as required by IEC 61508. Its individual certificate is 2628.653.7-1, issued 2026-06-09.

This certification gives end users, EPCs, system integrators, and asset owners confidence that valve 1231359 can be integrated into safety-instrumented functions as part of a compliant functional safety lifecycle. Continued validity depends on the valve design remaining unchanged and on correct application, installation, operation, and maintenance by the end user. Responsibility for safe integration into the overall safety-instrumented system, for proof testing, and for lifecycle management under IEC 61508 remains with the end user.
