Issued and certified by Risknowlogy — independent certification body for functional safety, operating according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Scope: The BHDT high-pressure final element assemblies (3170-XV-14003 and 3170-XV-15215) have been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508:2010 and IEC 61511:2016, confirming their suitability for use as final elements in safety instrumented systems. The certification was issued on 28 May 2026 under certificate number 2628.659.11-1.
The assemblies are intended for high-pressure shutoff duties in chemical process applications, performing the safety function of closing on demand to bring the process to a safe state within the required response time. They operate in low-demand mode. Each assembly integrates a BHDT high-pressure valve with a Servovalve actuator, ATOS solenoid valve, and supporting pneumatic components.
The certification assessment covered both the individual BHDT valves under IEC 61508 and the complete final element assemblies under IEC 61511. Risknowlogy's structured functional safety methodology was applied, addressing hardware integrity, reliability, basic safety, functional safety management, and user documentation. An FMEDA was carried out for each assembly configuration, combining the failure rates of the individual components into a subsystem-level analysis.
Both assemblies are classified as Type A subsystems, reflecting designs with well-defined and predictable failure behaviour. Based on the assessed failure data and architectural constraints, each is fit for use in SIL 1 safety functions at HFT = 0, and in SIL 2 safety functions at HFT = 1, in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
This certification provides end users, EPCs, system integrators, and asset owners with confidence that the BHDT final element assemblies can be integrated into safety instrumented functions as part of a compliant functional safety lifecycle. The end user retains responsibility for correct installation, commissioning, safety validation, operation, proof testing, maintenance, and future modifications in accordance with IEC 61511.
The detailed certification basis, safety functions, conditions of use, and end-user responsibilities are defined in the issued Risknowlogy certificate (2628.659.11-1) and supporting certification report (2628.659.10).
