The Esferomatic Floating Ball Valve Series ABF / IBF has been independently certified by Risknowlogy in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511, confirming its suitability for use in safety-related shutoff applications within safety instrumented systems.
The certification applies to floating ball valves intended for tight shutoff duties, operating in low-demand mode. The assessment was performed using Risknowlogy’s structured functional safety assessment methodology, covering the requirements for hardware integrity, reliability, basic safety, functional safety management, and supporting user documentation as defined by the applicable standards.
The certified valve series is classified as Type A hardware, reflecting a design with well-defined, predictable failure behaviour suitable for analytical evaluation. The certification was carried out using compliance route 1H, based on a detailed assessment of failure modes, failure rates, and architectural constraints relevant to final elements used in safety instrumented functions.
Based on the assessed failure data and compliance route, the Esferomatic Floating Ball Valve Series is fit for use in Safety Integrity Level applications from SIL 1 up to SIL 3, subject to correct system architecture, application constraints, and lifecycle implementation in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
This certification provides end users, EPCs, system integrators, and asset owners with confidence that the certified floating ball valves can be integrated into safety instrumented functions as part of a compliant functional safety lifecycle. The continued validity of the certification depends on the valve design remaining unchanged and on correct specification, installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance by the end user.
The detailed certification basis, safety functions, conditions of use, and limitations are defined in the issued certificate and the supporting Risknowlogy assessment report.
